DoD STEM

The Department of Defense is committed to providing STEM opportunities to students of all ages and educators throughout the country, across all demographics, in collaboration with our partners from academia, industry, not-for-profit organizations, and other Federal agencies. The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense is the central coordination office for all STEM programs, steering Department-wide efforts to address long-term (e.g., targeting K-12 education and outreach) and near-term (postsecondary) defense workforce needs. As a collaborative cross-Component effort, DoD STEM benefits from the unique resources and initiatives brought to bear by the Departments of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force, as well as the Defense Agencies, in pursuit of common goals: building a STEM-literate citizenry, inspiring the next generation of leaders, and attracting quality talent. Creating pathways for students and educators to engage in meaningful STEM experiences is a strategic investment to build a talent pool with minds for innovation, diversity of thought, and the technical agility to sustain DoD’s competitive edge.
